A couple of months ago I went back to Lincoln University where I studied Illustration. I gave a lecture, created with a fellow alumnus, entitled ‘Life after university with an Illustration degree’. At the end of the lecture, I set the third year students an open brief to create an illustration around Palmer Hargreaves and the agency’s office refurbishment, with the winners having their work showcased in the new reception. The brief was well received, but we could only pick three winners, so my creative director and I judged the illustrations. The three pieces that stood out for us in terms of their illustration style and their ideas behind them were by Hayley Wells, Grace Sandford and Jenny Palmer. Well done to all three of them. Keep your eyes out for them in the future.

This quote was quoted in an article I read in Creative Review (March 2013) in the section Paul Belford writes 'Art directing the idea'. It stood out for me and as Paul puts it 'An attitude more art directors would be well advised to adopt'.

Four years ago I created an illustration for an AOI competition 'A View of London' with the winners being shown in the London Transport Museum (LTM). My piece 'London Marathon versus London Transport' was selected and it was shown in the LTM for a couple of months.

This week it goes to a digital execution on an iPad by Audi, that's more than just a digital ad. Using the screenshot feature, readers need to try and photograph the worlds fastest car, by pressing the Home and Sleep button. I don't think I've seen this feature being used before. It's a great way to get people to interact with the ad and the users now have 3 Audi photos saved on their iPad photo library too for a lasting effect.

I've just designed myself some new business cards. These two sided business cards represent me as an illustrator and an art director, you'll want two to be able to join them and get the full effect.
If you'd like me to DM you a pair, drop me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org

At first when you watch this new Got Milk ad, you'll probably think like I did, not another one of those ads, what have they done. But just wait for the great reveal ending. I'm not going to say anymore and spoil it 'Less is more'. Great casting by the way Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.

At the end of last year I entered 'Dog-Ear' (read the blog post) 'It's a magazine. But it's also a bookmark' as it's described. It can be found in independent bookshops and libraries all over the UK (and now internationaly too). When it reaches 40 submissions it selects the best 9 illustrations/stories etc and prints an issue and I just heard this morning I am 1 of the 9 published and I'm going to be in Issue 4. So keep your eyes out as 3000 are being spread around these bookshops or you can see the PDF version now.
Above is my illustration. Submit yourself to have a go and see if you'll get printed in Issue 5.

I enjoyed this one from Renault, the 'Va Va Voom Button' (not just because of the women). It wouldn't have caught anyone out, but I thought it was quite a sweet idea, bringing reminiscent scenes from past advertising to transform an ordinary British street to a French scene. I was waiting for Thierry Henry to pop out at one point.
